Up until 1997 only privately owned small SNBR based engines went visiting other railways.
Then in 1997 a cumination of events took D9015 Tulyar (the main stay of the SNBR fleet) for a
weekend visit to the Moors valley Railway
in Dorset. This weekend away proved a success and may one day be repeated.
Owd Rosie went on its travels in 1999 also going to Moors Valley for the second ever Tinkerbell
weekend. Unfortunately her very long wheel base meant that she could not negoiate the railway and
the trip still haunts us all.
Also in 1999 the Romulus and Steptoe went for a flying visit to CRAMEC on Canvey Island. With
Romulus suffering two injector failures (both brand new) the 25 was left as our only flag at
this event.
Then came 2001 The year of the travellor. Engines were sent everywhere or so it seemed.
Montezuma went for a weekend visit to Weston Park for there American Weekend. by our
estimation we carried more passengers than any other engine and we also know we did more
trips than anyone else. What made this more impressive was that we had to "tighten" the tubes
on sunday morning after she worked so hard the Saturday.
Following that was the Kestrel to Bolbrook Castle where No 5 also went for jaunt round the
line. The end of the summer also saw the Hymek go to Bolbrook for about 1 week under a
locomotive exchange.
Then came the ill fated 2001 7 1/4" AGM. Ill fated in our respects. A mix up with the
organisor saw Sir Goss sitting in the van and Kestrel running on the track. This and other
things lead to the SNBR visitors deciding to go elsewhere on the Sunday. That elsewhere was
the Eastleigh Lakeside Railway. We enjoyed ourselves even with the rain.
The final away day of the year was Sir Goss to Holycombe. Well an afternoon due to Transportation
problems. Sir Goss performed admirably and when she first came into service, from out of no where
about 15 photographers came to take pictures. We also enjoyed ourselves with a cab ride in the
full size and 2' gauge railways.
